Robert Sheard et al. v. Meta and Tosca Reno et al v. Meta just became the 3rd and 4th copyright suit filed by Stris & Maher and Freedman Normand law firms against Meta today. The 4 lawsuits are near identical in allegations and claims, and they all involve book authors as plaintiffs.
- Sheard v. Meta = 58 book authors
- Older v. Meta = 57 book authors.
- Winspear v. Meta = 60 book authors.
- Reno v. Meta = 56 book authors
- Total = 231 book authors.
It’s hard to see a reason for filing 4 separate lawsuits alleging the same allegations (other than the facts about each plaintiff) instead of 1 lawsuit. There’s a very good chance all 4 cases will be consolidated before Judge Chhabria, who presides over all book author suits against Meta.
These cases raise the total number of suits against AI companies in the United States to 152.
The suits against Meta just hit 20:
