Anthropic loses bid to relate Chicken Soup for the Soul, Cognella suits to Bartz v. Anthropic

Judge Martinez-Olguin rejected Anthropic’s request to have the recently filed lawsuits by book authors and publishers (some of whom opted out of the Bartz v. Anthropic class settlement) treated as related cases to Bartz.

This means those cases will be assigned different judge(s).

Judge Pitts already has the Cambronne v. Anthropic case, and he is deciding which defendants he will retain after severing the various lawsuits against different AI companies.

Judge Gilliam, Jr. has already been assigned Chicken Soup for the Soul v. Anthropic.

Cognella Inc. v. Anthropic has yet to be assigned.

This also means the subsequent lawsuits against Anthropic will not follow the same path as the ones against Meta. Judge Chhabria decided to relate similar suits filed by some of the same plaintiffs here.

But it seems likely that Judge Pitts might get all 3 remaining suits here if he retains Cambronne v. Anthropic and then deems the other 2 as related cases to the earlier filed Cambronne.
