Following motion to dismiss, John Carreyrou substitutes his company Cambronne as Plaintiff, plus adds NVIDIA and Apple to the omnibus copyright suit v. the U.S. AI industry

You got to hand it to book author John Carreyrou. He dreams big.

After Anthropic moved to dismiss him from his lawsuit given that he doesn’t own the copyright to his works–his company Cambronne does–Carreyrou has substituted his company as the lead plaintiff.

But, even more importantly, Carreyrou has added NVIDIA and Apple as defendants.

As shown below, this omnibus copyright lawsuit is basically against the U.S. AI industry:

OpenAI might not be part of the lawsuit for long. Judge Thompson severed that part of the lawsuit, to transfer it to the MDL litigation before Judge Stein. But apparently that hasn’t occurred yet.

Plus, Google, Perplexity, xAI, Meta, and Anthropic have already filed motions to sever the lawsuit as improperly joining different defendants. Motion Hearing set for 4/9/2026 10:00 AM before Judge P. Casey Pitts.

Judge Pitts was reassigned this case after Judge Thompson recused herself.
