The AI Copyright Wars are escalating. We just set a record for most copyright suits filed in 1 week in the last 4 years since the War started: 8 new AI copyright suits in 1 week, which is not yet over.
Yesterday, both Suno and Anthropic were hit with copyright lawsuits filed by the same law firm Adams & Reese that has already sued them in similar suits on behalf of Round Hill Music (v. Suno and v. Anthropic) and Gerencia 360 v. Suno.
The new lawsuits — Reservoir Media Management v. Suno and Reservoir Media Management v. Anthropic — were also filed by Adams & Reese in the Northern District of California. The Complaint says: “Reservoir is a leading independent music company that owns or exclusively controls copyrights in tens of thousands of musical compositions and master recordings spanning virtually every genre and era of popular music. Reservoir’s catalogs include works by some of the most celebrated songwriters and recording artists in history, including rock, pop, country, blues, R&B, Hip Hop, and alternative.
projected total of AI copyright suits by end of 2026
These lawsuits raise the total number of AI copyright suits to 156. Our current projection, based on the pace of filings, is that the total may hit between 174 to 181 lawsuits by end of 2026.
We will see if that holds.
