A remarkable scene last night: Pres. Trump, fresh off watching the U.S. team pull off a comeback win at the President’s Cup, said he was having dinner with Dario Amodei whom Trump called “highly respected, from Anthropic.” Trump added: they’re “going to be big.”
This comes after the D.C. Circuit just sided with the Department of War: its decision to classify Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security was reasonable and reasonably explained.
The Wall Street Journal also reports that the White House has a memo assessing Anthropic: “A memo about Amodei has recently circulated inside the White House attacking him for having ties to Democrats and for being a longtime critic of the president, according to a version seen by the Journal. A different memo targeting Anthropic and the effective altruism movement has also been shared within the administration, arguing that the philosophy that prioritizes protecting humanity from powerful AI systems ‘built the AI-doom pipeline.’”
