Meta had originally released its LLaMa models as open-weight models, but appeared to shift to close models to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic. But today’s announcement signals a shift back to open weight models.
This is a move that many in the U.S. AI sector wanted, in part to neutralize China’s popular open-weight models.
