OpenAI is really eating the world. After just launching a TikTok style, AI video generator Sora 2, OpenAI reportedly is building a music generator to compete with Suno (which itself faces 2 copyright lawsuits in the United States, one filed by UMG Recordings and the other by Anthony Justice).
This isn’t surprising. Music generation is here to stay.
Suno is already bringing in $150 million in annual revenues, as reported by The Information. And it’s been widely reported that Suno and Udio, another music generator company, have been negotiating licensing deals with the music copyright stakeholders.
It does raise the question whether OpenAI will seek music licensing deals first or just launch its music generator and wait for the copyright lawsuits.
