Magistrate Judge Wang denies OpenAI’s discovery motion seeking New York Times’ use of AI

In the MDL Litigation, In re OpenAI Copyright Infringement Litigation, Magistrate Judge Ona Wang delivered yet another discovery loss to OpenAI and Microsoft.

This time, Judge Wang rejected their motion to compel the New York Times to produce the content of all chat logs from NYT employees’ use of their internal generative AI program called ChatExplorer.

This follows other major discovery losses for OpenAI and Microsoft, some of which are chronicled below.
