Updated Map of 40 US copyright suits v. AI companies, with transfer of all suits v. OpenAI to Judge Stein.

We updated the U.S. map of all copyright cases against AI companies to indicate the transfer of all lawsuits against OpenAI and Microsoft to Judge Sidney Stein in New York. That means Judge Stein presides over all 12 lawsuits against OpenAI and the 11 against Micosoft (the Millette lawsuit is only against OpenAI).

Judge Stein’s courtroom in the Southern District of New York is now the epicenter of all AI copyright lawsuits against OpenAI and Microsoft. The MDL panel granted the petition of OpenAI/Microsoft to transfer the cases for pretrial purposes to one MDL court presided over by Judge Stein, who will oversee discovery in all cases (with Magistrate Judge Ona Wang, who has already done an incredible jobs in the 6 cases already assigned to Judge Stein).

Judge Stein will also decide the anticipated summary judgment motions. Judge Stein has issued two opinions on fair use (one finding it and the other rejecting it). For more, click here.
