The first trial in a copyright lawsuit against an AI company is Thomson Reuters v. ROSS Intelligence in the District of Delaware, scheduled for August 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Wilmington, Delaware, lasting five days. Jury selection on August 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
But what’s most unusual is that ROSS Intelligence closed its legal tech service in 2021 after it got sued. But ROSS reportedly vowed to defend itself in the lawsuit. At the time, cofounder and CEO Andrew Arruda explained, “We’re fighting for not just ROSS, but for every legal tech startup that exists today and which may exist in the future. We’re fighting for every customer we’ve ever had, every law student, paralegal, researcher, reporter, self-represented litigant, and lawyer.
According to LawSites, the ROSS cofounder Jimoh Ovbiagele is padrt of BenchIQ, a new legal tech startup that will provide analytics of judges’ decisions using AI. Would be interesting to know what its AI says about Judge Bibas, the judge presiding over the trial involving ROSS.
