Now that the payout to class members in the Bartz v. Anthropic class settlement is starting, it’s time to turn attention to the subsequent litigation filed by authors who opted out of the class settlement.
The main cluster of cases, led by Cambronne v. Anthropic, is before Judge Pitts in the Northern District of California. Anthropic just filed a motion to dismiss the complaint on various grounds, including the 3-year statute of limitations. Anthropic filed a similar motion in the Shakespeare v. Anthropic case also before Judge Pitts.
Meanwhile, plaintiff Kimberly Kay Hoang voluntarily dismissed her suit without prejudice.
