Sony Music Entertainment just sued Uncharted Labs d/b/a Udio in a second copyright lawsuit to allege Udio infringed 30,000+ additional songs.
The second lawsuit comes less than a month after Judge Hellerstein denied Sony leave to amend the complaint to add those 30,000+ additional songs. See his Order below:
This strategy is similar to the one the music publishers Concord Music used against Anthropic: the plaintiffs filed a second lawsuit after being denied leave to amend the complaint in the first lawsuit. Now, both Concord Music I and Concord Music II are before Judge Eumi Lee, who denied the motion for leave. If the past is prologue, we should expect a similar development here.
