Google removes lawsuit of David L. Greene, former NPR host of “Morning Edition.” Case alleged state claims for voice appropriation to train Google’s NotebookLM. Lawsuit No. 87 v. AI companies.

Google has filed a notice of removal of the state law case of David L. Greene v. Google. It alleges various state law claims against Google for allegedly using recordings of Greene’s voice to train the model behind NotebookLM.

Greene was the former host of NPR’s Morning Edition and current podcaster.

The removal to federal court is based on the argument that these claims involve rights equivalent to copyright that are preempted by the Copyright Act.

We will count this as the 87th copyright-related lawsuit against AI companies in the United States.
