Runway AI just got sued in its 4th copyright lawsuit filed against it.
Three of them allege DMCA anti-circumvention violations related to YouTube videos Runway AI allegedly used to train its AI models. All three were filed in the past month: Businessing v. Runway AI, Ace Cam v. Runway AI, and Gardner v. Runway AI.
Businessing has already filed a statement of relatedness to Ace Cam v. Runway AI, assigned to Judge Lewis Kaplan. Both lawsuits were filed by the lawyer Mark Svensson. The other DMCA lawsuit, Gardner v. Runway AI, was filed in the Central District of California by the lawyer Tina Wolfson.
Then there’s the Andersen v. Stability AI lawsuit filed back in 2023. It does not involve a DMCA Section 1201 claim. Instead, it involves a direct copyright infringement claim, vicarious infringement claim, and DMCA Section 1202 claims.
Businessing v. Runway AI raises the total to 86 copyright lawsuits filed against AI companies in the United States.
