Billie Eilish donates $11.5 million to charity and politely nudges Mark Zuckerberg to donate more

Billie Eilish gave impromptu remarks after receiving a Wall Street Journal Innovator’s Award for music. While Mark Zuckerberg was in attendance to watch his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan accept the Innovator’s Award for philanthropy, Eilish said:

We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country.

I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.

Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me.

If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.

Eilish is estimated to have a net worth of $53 million. An $11.5 million donation equals 22% of her net worth.

Zuckerberg is estimated to have a net worth of $126 billion. Zuckerberg and Chan signed the Giving Pledge in 2010 to donate 99% of their Facebook shares over time.

It’s unclear how much of that has been donated. By 2017, one report indicated that $3.6 billion has been donated to charity, which would back then equaled 4.9% of their net worth. In 2024, the estimated amount of donations to charity was $4.5 billion.
