Penske Media v. Google COMPLAINT. Rolling Stone owner sues Google for AI Mode. Antitrust claim

Google just got hit with an antitrust lawsuit filed by Penske Media, owner of Rolling Stone and other media publications. The suit alleges: “But in recent years, Google has begun to tie its participation in this bargain to another transaction to which PMC and other publishers do not willingly consent. As a condition of indexing publisher content for search, Google now requires publishers to also supply that content for other uses that cannibalize or preempt search referrals.” (emphasis added)

There is no copyright claim.

The lawsuit was filed by Susman Godfrey law firm, which earlier this week filed the lawsuit Encyclopaedia Britannica v. Perplexity AI. Susman also represents the Bartz class of book authors, other book authors, and the New York Times. Susman’s Justin Nelson is the interim lead counsel in the MDL litigation against OpenAI and Microsoft before Judge Stein.
