The copyright lawsuits keep coming. This time, Kai Bird and other book authors sued Microsoft for its training of its own AI model. (The prior lawsuits focused on Microsoft’s relationship with OpenAI, plus its incorporation of RAG.) This is copyright lawsuit No. 45.
This lawsuit is also based on the alleged use of the now notorious “Books3” books dataset that apparently all the AI companies developing LLMs used.
It’s possible this lawsuit escapes transfer to the OpenAI MDL Litigation. But we will soon find out.
