Craig Federighi explains delay in Siri. Had to switch to Version 2 for AI overhaul.

Apple’s WWDC conference is over. Apple received plenty of criticism for not having enough AI programs yet.

Craig Federighi explained in an interview what’s going on with Siri. Apple couldn’t integrate all the AI functionality it wanted in Version 1 (V1). So, it decided to switch to Version 2 (V2). Unclear if that’s an entirely new program but it might be.

It also sounds like Apple is seeking perfection while Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI are fine with incremental rollouts of different AI versions.

“It wouldn’t meet our customer expectations or Apple standards,” said Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi on why the new Siri capabilities haven’t yet been rolled out. The exec went on to say that as soon as Apple realized that version 1 of Siri with Apple Intelligence wouldn’t reach quality expectations, they let the world know and pivoted efforts to a version 2 that was being worked on in the background.
