Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Drake Bennett have a lengthy article detailing Apple’s woes in trying to deploy AI on its devices, including with a revamped Siri.
According to the article, one member of Apple’s AI team even said: “This is a crisis.”
Gurman and Bennett seem to agree: “And historically, Apple’s most successful products have depended on core technologies developed in-house—multitouch for the iPhone and advanced chips for iPads and newer Macs, to take two examples. With AI this formula hasn’t come together.”
Perhaps the only saving grace for Apple in being late to AI is that it’s unlikely to face a copyright infringement suit as Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and other AI companies currently face.
But that’s probably small consolation for Apple.
