UMG Recordings offers digital copies, instead of physical deposit copies, in response to Suno’s motion to compel.

Still reeling from losing on the same issue in the lawsuit it filed against Udio, UMG Recordings is trying to avoid the same result on the defendant’s motion to compel in the lawsuit it filed against Suno.

UMG Recordings argues that it has already offered digital copies of the recordings relevant to its copyright claim–and the digital copies are sufficient. It also argues that Suno is free to seek the deposit copies from the U.S. Copyright Office.

UMG Recordings’ letter doesn’t address the second discovery dispute related to the discovery of its artist-label agreements (related to ownership of copyrights for the recordings). That strikes me as the far bigger deal, no pun intended.
