China’s government tells AI researchers to avoid traveling to U.S. to protect AI know-how

In an article in the Wall Street Journal today, China’s government reportedly has instructed AI researchers and entrepreneurs to avoid traveling to the United States. The Chinese government fears loss of trade secrets—or even detention by the United States law enforcement similar to what happened to Meng Wanzhou of Huawei during Trump’s first administration.

DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng didn’t to the the Paris AI summit due to these concerns, as did another founder of an AI company in China with a canceled visit to the United States.
