Benjamin Mann, co-founder of Anthropic, opposes deposition in Tremblay v. OpenAI re: the work he did for OpenAI in past

We are beginning to see some discovery skirmishes in the In re OpenAI ChatGPT Litigation.

Benjamin Mann filed a motion to quash the subpoena lodged by the plaintiffs for his deposition. Mann points out that he doesn’t work for OpenAI and doesn’t have any special knowledge that current OpenAI employees wouldn’t know themselves. And, yet, those OpenAI employees haven’t even been deposed yet.

Also noteworthy is that Mann left OpenAI in 2020 and co-founded Anthropic, an OpenAI competitor. Plus, Mann states: he “has a 7-month-old infant and a 2-year-old toddler at home, and recently a close family member of Mr. Mann’s received a medical diagnosis with a prognosis of months, not years.”
