Gov. Newsom writes letter vetoing AI safety bill SB 1047 — using Century Gothic font

Governor Newsom wrote a letter to the California State Senate explaining why he vetoed SB 1047, the AI safety bill. But what he didn’t explain is why he wrote the letter in Century Gothic font, see below.

Century Gothic font is a modern (Sans-serif) font not typically used in professional or legal letters.

As ChatGPT explained: “Century Gothic is a modern, geometric sans-serif font, which gives it a clean and minimalist look. While it is visually appealing and often used in headings or design contexts, it is generally not considered ideal for professional business or legal letters.”

UPDATE (12:50 PM PT): A reader helpfully commented that the font, in fact, is Century Gothic, not Helvetica. We asked ChatGPT to verify, but it kept on insisting that it was Helvetica. We then pointed out that the “a” is a single story a in the Newsom letter. ChatGPT then admitted it begrudgingly admitted it may have been wrong! It is Century Gothic. Thanks to our perceptive reader! Beat ChatGPT!
