Apple reportedly strikes deal with OpenAI

Apple is late to the AI party. But it will soon make major AI-related announcements at its WWDC conference on June 10-14.

One of the key components is expected to be the inclusion of OpenAI’s AI in some aspect of the iPhone. The negotiations have been widely reported, and, now, according to The Information, a deal has been struck.

Apparently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is concerned about the deal with Apple and how it may affect Microsoft’s investment/partnership with OpenAI. Of course, let’s not forget that Microsoft also invested 15 million Euros in French startup Mistral, a competitor to OpenAI.

From a business standpoint, Apple has to catch up in rolling out AI as OpenAI, Meta, and Google are already locked in an AI arms race. But, from a legal standpoint, the inclusion of OpenAI’s AI may invite a copyright lawsuit against Apple.
