AI voice generator Lovo sued for claims of right of publicity in Lehrman v. Lovo, Inc., No. 1:24-cv-03770 (S.D.N.Y. May 16, 2024)

Lovo.ai is a “hyper realistic AI voice generator that captivates your audience.” As first reported by the New York Times, Paul Skye Lehrman and Linnea Sage, two voice actors, have filed a class action complaint against Lovo for allegedly violating their rights of publicity in their voices under New York state law and Lanham Act false affiliation and false advertising claims.

The NYT article includes comparisons of Lerhman’s and Sage’s real voices and alleged clones by Lovo. According to the NYT article, “the couple said anonymous Lovo employees had paid them for a few voice clips in 2019 and 2020 without disclosing how the clips would be used.” According to the Complaint, a user of the Fiverr platform (alleged to be an employee of Defendant LOVO) reached out to Lehrman and told him that the gig would involve voiceovers for research purposes only.

Likewise, Sage was approached on Fiverr for a gig purportedly for a radio ad, but allegedly was for Lovo co-founder Tom Lee.

The plaintiffs are represented by Steve Cohen and Anna Menkova of Pollock Cohen LLP in New York.

The case was assigned to Judge J. Paul Oetken.
