By all accounts, the AI Insight Forum organized by Sen. Chuck Schumer with leading AI tech leaders and executives was very productive. There reportedly was a consensus about the need for some government regulation of AI, as the leaders all raised their hands in the affirmative to a question by Schumer. The Senator planned to have legislation before the Senate within months.
Afterwards, Elon Musk told reporters: “There’s some chance – above zero – that AI will kill us all. I think it’s low but there’s some chance. The consequences of getting AI wrong are severe.”
But Must added:
“It was a very civilized discussion among some of the smartest people in the world. I thought Senator Schumer did a great service to humanity here, with the support of the rest of the Senate, and I think something good will come of this. This meeting may go down in history as being very important for the future of civilization.”
